SEO London offers students in-depth training, high quality mentoring and vacation placements with the leading corporate law firms in the City of London. The ultimate goal is for this experience to lead to a training contract – in the past ten years more than 80% of SEO summer experience students have been offered full-time graduate roles with partner firms, and in excess of 40% have received multiple job offers.
Through its unique Networking series, SEO London will provide every student with access to senior partners at all sponsors of the programme, including Magic Circle, Silver Circle, and US law firms (full details below).
Students participating in the programme will also have the opportunity to complete multiple vacation placements with different sponsor firms throughout 2011/2012.
Every student participating in the programme will receive in excess of sixty hours of individually tailored pre-summer training to ensure they outperform their peers and maximise their chances of success. In addition, every participant will also be allocated a senior industry mentor to help guide them through their vacation scheme experiences.
Historically, as a result of this exposure and support, more than 80% of the students that have interned through SEO London have gone on to secure full time graduate positions with sponsor firms. This year SEO supported students received 14 training contracts with Linklaters alone.
In 2011, more than 100 students received training and exposure through the SEO London Corporate Law programme and for 2012 there are 150 places available for Winter, Easter and Summer vacation placements with partner law firms.
SEO provides a range of opportunities with its partner corporate law firms for law and non-law undergraduates and graduates in all years of study:
- First year students can participate in the SEO First Year Fast Track Programme which includes training and insight from all of our partner law firms. Those that impress will also be placed on partner law firm first year Spring placements.
- Penultimate and final year students can complete our partner law firm vacation schemes in Winter, Easter and Summer.
- Final year law students and those completing the GDL or LPC can be considered for training contracts with all of our partner law firms.

I was initially eager to join the SEO programme because of its exceptional reputation for providing unrivalled opportunities at top City firms to capable students from under-represented backgrounds and its high success rate in helping candidates convert placements into job offers.
But, having now gone through the programme, perhaps what makes SEO unique is the commitment it employs in nurturing its candidates. During my placement, I was provided with a strong support unit in the form of a buddy and a mentor, which helped make the whole experience much less intimidating. This, combined with the comprehensive training SEO offered throughout the summer, equipped me with the skills set and self-esteem needed to tackle my placement with confidence.
Thanks to SEO, not only have I been fortunate enough to secure a training contract with a prestigious law firm but to top it up; I have had an unforgettable summer and met some truly inspirational people along the way.
